Eat your way to a healthier life


Even if you're trying to lose weight, don't be scared of all fats. Eating fat at each meal can help to curb sweet cravings. Just choose 'good fats' such as avocado, nuts, seeds, olives, sesame and extra virgin olive oil

If you're struggling with diet-sized portions, cut your food into strips and pile it high on your plate - you won't be eating any more, but a big plateful looks so much more satisfying

Chewing sugar-free gum 15 minutes after you've eaten and again after a couple of hours can help to stop snack cravings

If you're facing an afternoon slump, chew some gum - the scent of peppermint will help to wake you up and combat tiredness.

If you're trying to eat more healthily, don't totally deny yourself treats, but swap the cakes and crisps for occasional quality treats such as dark chocolate-covered Brazil nuts

It takes your brain 20 minutes to tell you that you feel full, so just wait a while before ordering the double chocolate sundae - you might not actually want it!


The little things that make a big difference


Don't forget to pack a pashmina in your holiday hand luggage: use it as a shawl on cooler evenings, a sarong during the day and a blanket on the flight (and free up more space in your case for shoes/dutyfree/straw donkeys!)

Don't forget to wash your make up brushes once a week to kill germs. Use shampoo or an antibacterial hand wash. And wash your make up bag once a month too.

For a great all-round beauty product that won't break the bank, try coconut oil. Use it to moisturise skin, condition hair, smooth dry lips and remove make-up.

Strange but true! Rub crushed strawberries onto your teeth. The acidity will help break down plaque and remove yellow stains  

Dirt can build up on your mobile phone and cause spots on your chin and cheek so wipes it down at least once a week with an antibacterial face wipe (wring it out first to make sure it's not too wet)

Laughing for 10-15 minutes a day increases your weekly energy consumption by up to 280 calories - what better excuse to watch re-runs of Friends!   

Want a cheap and easy way to whiten stained teeth? Dip a wet toothpaste into baking soda, brush gently for a couple of minutes, rinse and repeat. Do this once a week for an A-list smile on  Z-list budget!

To stop costume jewellery leaving you with green fingers, wrists or ears, paint it with layer of clear nail varnish

Having trouble dropping off to sleep? Try a relaxing warm bath followed by a cup of camomile tea.
